a song a week

I’ve been thinking about what to do with this blog, and I’ve finally come up with an idea that really excites me.

You know, songwriting is my main passion in life. I feel I have so much inside me that I want to share with everyone, and there’s nothing I love more than sitting down with my guitar and crafting music and words into a song. The satisfaction than I get from performing my own songs to a live audience is beyond words. Sometimes, however, it gets hard to find the time to write… and songwriting I feel is a stream of creation that flows faster and stronger the more you give. My work so far has been a mere trickle.

It’s time to change that.

For one year, starting today, I will post one new original song on this blog every week. That means by the end of the week, you can expect to see either a video or mp3 uploaded here, with lyrics of course. I already have several videos on my YouTube channel, but these don’t count. Each song will be a completely new creation.

This is my challenge to myself… not easy I know, but it’s going to be fun!

What will I write about? The sky’s the limit. I’m open to suggestions, too 😉

13:34, the musical

I haven’t told many people about this, but I’ve actually got a small role in an upcoming musical called “13:34”. It’s organised by Cana – The Catholic Centre, in conjunction with the Year For Priests, and it tells the story of three young men and their struggles in answering the call of God. (In case you’re wondering about the title, its taken from John 13:34 – “Love one another, as I have loved you.”)

I’ll be playing one of the protagonist’s gangster sidekicks, and you will get to hear me rap a little bit! 😉

This is the first time I’ve been involved in a musical of any kind, so I’m thrilled to be doing this. Been spending almost every weekend since end-March running through blockings, lines and dance steps, but it’s been really fun. Yesterday, we did a full run of Act 1 and it was good to see it finally coming together. Yes, there’s still a lot of work to be done, but I know it’s gonna turn out great! I feel blessed to have met so many talented and friendly people on this journey.

It’s about time…

Ok, so it’s been exactly 10 months since my first post… and here I am red-faced – and still wondering what to do with this blog!

Well, in my defense I’ve been really, really busy. So many things have happened it’s just too much work to update everything in one post. To cut a long story short, I’m now happily married to the love of my life, and as of last month, pursuing my dream of becoming a singer-songwriter.

This is the start of a new chapter in my life, and I will write about my journey here.

For the longest time, I’ve wanted to upload my music online, but didn’t get down to it until now. (No guts time I guess?)

Then the idea of starting a blog hit me, and here I am. This is the first post, so I’m racking my brains thinking of what to write (besides “so yeah I started a blog…”).

I really just want a space to express myself and share my music with whoever’s listening, and I’m glad I’ve taken the first step. I’m pretty excited about this  🙂

I think I’ll start by uploading a few videos of me playing my songs and take it from there…
